			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>It has been felt for some time now that too little or poor quality sleep in teenagers leads to a fall in performance at school, however it was not until recently that a formal research study confirmed that teenage children with poor sleeping habits do indeed have lower grades.</p>
<p> Here are 10 tips to ensure that a healthy child does not suffer from <a href="http://help-me-to-sleep.com">sleep problems</a> and can get the level of sleep needed to perform well in school.</p>
<p> 1. Set a regular time for going to bed and do not vary this by more than a matter of a few minutes from one day to the next.</p>
<p> 2. Ensure that you get up at the same time in the morning, whether or not it is a school day. Teenagers frequently get up late at the weekends and throughout the school holidays and, instead of making you feel better, this just disrupts your pattern of sleep.</p>
<p> 3. Should you find that you are unable to get to sleep within say 20 minutes of getting into bed then do not simply lie in bed trying to sleep, as the more you try the harder it will get. As an alternative, climb back out of bed and do something such as listening to some relaxing music or reading a book. Once you begin to feel tired, climb back into bed and you will be asleep in no time at all.</p>
<p> 4. Do not be tempted to stay up late doing your homework or studying for a test. Despite the fact that this may appear to be the answer to a particular problem in the short term, and might well keep you out of trouble for turning in your homework late or see you through a test, in the long run your overall performance will suffer and any short term gain will quickly be lost.</p>
<p> 5. Do not be tempted to take a nap after school. If you do find that you are so tired that you are unable to keep your eyes open then go ahead and take a nap but for no more than an hour.</p>
<p> 6. Do not consume any form of drink which contains caffeine after about 3 o’clock in the afternoon. This naturally applies to tea and coffee, but also extends to chocolate drinks and colas.</p>
<p> 7. Avoid eating a heavy meal just before going to bed. You obviously do not want to go to bed hungry and taking a light snack prior to bedtime is fine, however climbing into bed on a full stomach will make it difficult to fall asleep and affect your quality of sleep.</p>
<p> 8. Although teenagers will generally spend a great deal of time in their bedroom and turn it into much more of a &#8216;living&#8217; than a &#8216;sleeping&#8217; room, avoid using the bed for anything other than sleeping. Do not sit in bed writing, reading, playing games, watching TV or anything else but keep it only for sleeping so that your body learns to associate climbing into bed with going to sleep.</p>
<p> 9. Do not take any vigorous exercise within several hours of going to bed. If you want to play football or engage in other sports or vigorous activities then do these shortly after finishing school and not an two or three hours before going to bed.</p>
<p> 10. At bedtime ensure that your bedroom is quiet, dark and cool. Do not close the room up, turn up the heat and climb into bed to watch TV. Rather, lower the heat, open the window a bit if you can to let in some fresh air and have the room as dark as possible.</p>
<p> Follow these 10 tips and within no time at all the quality of your sleep will improve, you will feel much more awake and active during the day and your grades will improve.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Insomnia is one of the commonest of all <a href="http://help-me-to-sleep.com">sleep disorders</a> and is characterized by frequent interruptions to sleep, restlessness, shorter than usual sleeping time and occasionally by complete wakefulness.</p>
<p> In addition to being annoying, insomnia can lead to sufferers losing their enthusiasm and energy, experiencing difficulties with memory and concentration and generally feeling both lethargic and frustrated. In turn this can affect productivity at work and lead to accidents which can be very serious.</p>
<p> There are lots of different <a href="http://help-me-to-sleep.com/insomnia/">causes of insomnia</a> but here are just 6 which are commonly seen:</p>
<p> 1. Environmental Factors. Our environment is very important when it comes to sleep and things like noise, light or extremes of temperature can lead to insomnia.</p>
<p> 2. Substance Abuse. Perhaps the most obvious form of substance abuse when thinking about insomnia is coffee and other drinks which contain high levels of caffeine. Smoking is another commonly accepted cause with heavy or chain smokers consuming more than enough nicotine to cause problems sleeping. What is perhaps less well known however is that this list of substances is quite long and even contains a number of herbal remedies which are used for a range of problems and which can lead to insomnia as a side effect. Lastly, we should not overlook alcohol. While it is true that alcohol can often make you feel tired initially once it is metabolized it can also keep you wide awake.</p>
<p> 3. The Biological Clock. We all have our own body clock or circadian rhythm which regulates the body&#8217;s sleep/wake cycle. If this biological clock is upset by things like staying up all night partying, studying well into the small hours in college or flying off around the world on business or on holiday, then you will inevitably suffer from sleeping problems while your body clock slowly re-adjusts itself.</p>
<p> 4. Activities Prior To Going To Bed. There is a list of things that can produce insomnia if they take place close to bedtime and two items at the top of this list are taking exercise shortly before going to bed or eating a big meal shortly before retiring. These particular activities stimulate the body&#8217;s metabolism and keep you awake.</p>
<p> 5. Health Problems. There is a long list of health problems which are well known to induce insomnia and this list includes heart failure, diabetes, hyperthyroidism and ulcers. Asthma too is increasingly being seen cause of insomnia, as are such things as the need for frequent visits to the bathroom, heartburn and chronic pain arising out of such conditions as arthritis and leg cramps. There are also other sleep disorders, such as sleep apnea, which lead to as well as a range of psychiatric conditions.</p>
<p> 6. Emotional Problems. Almost all of us suffer from emotional distress occasionally and this can frequently lead to such things as anxiety or anger. But, if we keep our feelings to ourselves instead of talking about them and seeking a solution to them then this commonly results in insomnia.</p>

<p> The most obvious symptom of sleep apnea (which is just one of many common <a href="http://help-me-to-sleep.com">sleep disorders</a>) is snoring which is hard to spot by yourself and generally has to be brought to your attention by a sleeping partner. There are however many reasons for snoring and the simple fact that you snore does not by itself mean that you have sleep apnea. However, most sleep apnea sufferers do snore.</p>
<p> The second most obvious symptom of sleep apnea is undue tiredness during the day. Sleep apnea sufferers stop breathing frequently during sleep and the body&#8217;s natural reaction is to wake you enough for you to start breathing again, but not sufficiently for you to be aware that you are being awakened. This of course means that your sleep is constantly interrupted and thus very light so that you are not enjoying the deep sleep which your body needs. As a result you grow more and more tired during the day.</p>
<p> Left untreated the effects of sleep apnea start to appear and you will start to experience further symptoms which could include headaches (especially in the morning), bad temper and even depression. You may also find that you are beginning to put on weight.</p>
<p> Yet another less obvious indication of sleep apnea is an increase in blood pressure which can give rise to a number of cardiovascular difficulties. should you be one of the increasing number of people who are starting to monitor their blood pressure regularly at home then you will detect this fairly easily but, it not, it will not be discovered unless you visit your doctor&#8217;s office for a routine physical.</p>
<p> One further symptom is that of increasing difficulties with memory retention and learning difficulties. Once again this is not something which it is easy for you to spot yourself but other people may notice that you are not as fast on the uptake as you used to be.</p>
<p> Finally, a number of sufferers from sleep apnea will notice a decline in sexual function that can result in impotency.</p>
<p> Each of these symptoms in isolation could point to just about any problem you can think of.
